The mission of It's About Childhood & Family is to provide easily accessible resources and programs that have a collaborative and trauma informed framework; to offer families hope with a focus on strengths, resiliency, and the potential for growth/healing; and to advocate for all children and families by providing holistic, innovative, child-centered, and solution-focused supports.
Our focus is on the following core initiatives designed to support youth and families:
I. improving social-emotional functioning (e.g., Recognizing emotions in oneself and others; Understanding the causes and consequences of emotions; Labeling the full range of emotions using a rich vocabulary; Expressing emotions appropriately in different contexts; Regulating emotions effectively to foster healthy relationships and achieve goals).
II. improving physical and nutritional health which has been shown to improve overall mental health.
III. healing childhood trauma through expressive arts, yoga/mindfulness, physical activity/play, and by developing nurturing relationships.
IV. providing opportunities to explore potential passions (“Sparks”), discover purpose, and develop life-long healthy habits.
V. developing leadership skills, empathy, compassion for others by giving back to others and the larger community.
